It’s the reason apples and grapes turn red and the edges of the maple trees burn in the early morning light. A vivid explosion of color, lasting just weeks before falling to the ground. A wonderful sign of sweetness and seasons; readiness now and change to come. Perfection and impermanence.
Unhurried, but passing through.
Savoring the deliciousness of these moments, knowing they are a glimmer from gone. Hard-fought and effortless, arriving like clockwork on an unpredictable day. The ruby and red and deep purple of wine. A color, a flavor, a feeling.
A time and a place.
Now a name...
Welcome to A N T H O.
Antho is a newly established vineyard more than 30 miles offshore in northern Lake Michigan.
Following in the rugged footsteps of those that cleared this land a century ago, we are quite possibly the farthest north planting in Michigan of some of the unique and European varietals currently in the ground. We are here to test the boundaries of what may grow in this special piece of the Great Lakes.
In the years to come, follow along as we introduce you to the grapes already planted, those to be planted, and the resulting wine as we strive for a quality representation of our soil, limestone bedrock, island climate, and Beaver Island way of life.
Antho is not open to the public at this time but we hope to be able to invite you to our beautiful island soon.
We love sharing this special place with all of you and hope you’ll fall in love with it like we have. For periodic email updates subscribe below.
Happy travels!
